Simeon Gyang Yohannah popularly known as Gyang Sele is born and raised in Plateau State, Middle belt Nigeria, in a nearby town to Plateau State capital – Barkin-ladi Local Govt. Area. His father – Mr. Yohanna Ezekiel a retired police officer who was also a musician influence and exposed him to the world of music.

At age 12 – Gyang Sele started his music journey. It will interest you to know that, at age 12 he was already a Good drummer, playing Live in Church and his father’s band – which was called ‘Sele Band’ sometimes in the 90s (where he got the name “Sele” which he is popularly known as today).

…his Dad was also the founder of the ‘Christ Star Singers’ – the present Church Band – COCIN Abattoir…


Gyang Sele was inspired to drumming by a drummer who was a member of the Winners Band in Jos, on a Crusade ground at Abattoir Primary School. Being so passionate and with a humble beginning, he started with local drums formed with empty tins, ladder and rubber and at the same time a member of the Band Boys – at COCIN Abattoir Boys Brigade​.

Gyang Sele later enrolled in a Music School to play other instrument such as the Guitar, Keyboard and also to perfect his skills on playing the Drums.

He grew up watching and listening to lots of singers and musicians who inspired him, the likes of Fred Hammond, Commission, Kirk Franklin, Kim Burrell, Brain McKnight, Lucky Dube, New Life Singers and Daps among others.


With God ordering his steps, Gyang Sele then became an active member of his Church Youth Fellowship – Church Of Christ In Nations (COCIN) Abattoir, Jos where he served the Lord with his talent and gift as the Director/Minister of Music for a period of 8years.

He was also an active member of a great and powerful choir call “Higher Call” in Jos, Plateau State, a group led by Mr. Jugu Kwon – a loving, gentle and humble savant of the Most High…the said choir shaped and influenced him (Gyang Sele) greatly especially towards Worship experience and excellence.

While with “Higher Call Choir”, Gyang Sele learnt that God alone is the audience of True Worship and Music can be used as tool to Praise and Worship the Almighty.

Higher Call was a great platform that inspires many to use their talent to glorify the Creator (God); they usually have an annual major Worship Concert featuring great music ministers – the likes of Dr Panam Percy Paul, Daps, Kunle Ajayi and lots more.

He had Spiritual leaders/teachers of the Word who inspire & impact his life; men such as: Evangelist Ishaku Bupwatda – A teacher and father he sat under, Dr Myles Munroe, Dr Noel Woodroffe (Bible School), Rev. Dr. Dachollom Datiri (COCIN President), Ernest Paul (Pastor Centre port Abuja) and lots more.

Gyang Sele has both Band & Choir experience, which influences his music pattern, he is a Song Writer, Singer, a Multi instrumentalist and also an entrepreneur.

His first album was released 10th March, 2013 titled – “WISE GOD” with hit Unique Arewa track “Babu” means (none like the Most High) produced and mixed in Jos by Lyncoln-X. @AirTight Studios. Also note that the song – BABU won the Best Arewa Urban Song of the Year at the JOGAMA GREEN AWARDS 2013.

“We Worship You” produced by Jeremiah Gyang @Callen Audios, he featured Jmiah as he like to call him, it will interest you to know that Jeremiah’s Dad late Rev. Luke Dung Gyang taught him how to play the Guitar and some Piano lessons on the keyboard.

In November, 2014 Gyang Sele released an EP of 3 Songs titled “Rhythm of Oneness”, a nation building project with the hit song “One People.” Rhythm of Oneness is a movement, a campaign toward promoting unity, togetherness amongst men…#jn17.

And since after he had 4 singles released “Haske”, “Blesseth”, “Zamani” and “Thank You” – a heart Worship song that inspire men to give thanks at all times.

Gyang Sele also shared very brief with us about his current experiences, a turn around, a demand from above towards Worship. And he is also working on a complete Worship Album which of course you all should look forward to…meanwhile a new single will be released before the Album which you should anticipate.
